    Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Month

    Awareness helps the public understand that symptoms like irregular periods and pelvic pain are not something to be ignored and getting it checked is necessary. While there is no cure for PCOS, there are treatments that can help ease the stress and complications of specific symptoms. The more people that are informed of PCOS the better chances for early diagnosis.

  • Using Feminist Pedagogy to Improve the Sex Ed Experience

    Feminist pedagogy acknowledges the lived experiences of students and emphasizes the sharing of stories and dialogue. This session will describe the use of feminist pedagogy to help sexuality educators become more comfortable with the uncomfortable, and create an open environment where students feel cared for, respected, and able to learn.   • Whose Job Is It, Anyway? Sexual Health Support for Young Survivors

    Any youth-serving professional – whether it's named in their job description or not – may encounter the topics of relationships, sex, sexual health, and sexuality in their work with young people. These topics are part of our everyday realities. This virtual training will help you effectively navigate these conversations in a trauma-informed and intentional way, as well as provide best practices for creating a safe and inclusive space for the young people you work with.   • Receiving a ‘No’: Rejection Literacy in Sex Ed

    This workshop will explore the importance of how we receive a ‘no’ and best practices for teaching rejection literacy in sex ed. Topics will cover different kinds of communication and navigating power dynamics in conversations of consent, to support us all in respecting the desires of others.

  • How to Teach Teens about Relationship Abuse: A Film Screening & Discussion

    Relationship Safety Education is often missing from Sex Ed – this Lecture shows educators how to fill that gap. Adam Joel, Survivor and Abuse Prevention Advocate, will screen his short film The Last Drop, followed by a discussion and Q&A about how to have The Relationship Safety Talk with teens. (Cost: $35)

  • The Pleasure Principle: Broadening the Scope of Sexuality Education

    This virtual half-day training helps educators teach comprehensive sex ed in a way that includes pleasure while still providing students with valuable health and safety information. This workshop will cover ways to be pleasure-inclusive in typical sex education lessons about consent, communication, and anatomy.   • Moving from Tiktoxic to Optimistic Masculinity

    We will open by hearing from experts in the manosphere who can walk us through what the average teenager is seeing on their social media feeds, hearing in podcasts, and the effect it has on their understanding of relationships, sex, and masculinity. Then we will jump right into an exciting keynote from Dr. Elizabeth Schroeder, Ed.D., MSW.     Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information.

    Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health campaign that’s held every October. The month aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease, which affects 2.3 million women worldwide. Known best for its pink theme color, the month features a number of campaigns and programs — conducted by groups ranging from breast cancer advocacy organizations to local community organizations to major retailers.

    For everyone who works with or cares for children/youth. In this workshop, you will learn about the prevalence of peer to peer sexual harm, why language matters, developmentally appropriate sexual play, child sexual behaviour chart, concerning sexual behaviour, statistics, primary causes of peer to peer sexual harm, age of onset, risk factors, sibling sexual harm, minor attracted youth, high risk locations, and more.     In this interactive, half-day virtual workshop, educators will identify types of sexuality questions, examine the role personal values play in answering these questions, and develop facilitation skills needed to answer sexuality questions in their teaching.     We will explore the emerging concept of accessible health education (AHE), disability justice and ways that ableism can impact students.     People in schools, shelters, and jails should all have access to tampons and pads, right? This lobby day organized by Mass NOW is a chance to hear from the activists and elected officials who have championed bills for menstrual equity.   • Periods and Wet Dreams: Teaching Puberty in Elementary School

    This interactive full-day virtual training equips educators, school nurses, and youth-serving professionals with strategies to support pubescent youth through physical changes, emotional growth, and identity development.   • Resistance to the Implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Ghana

    Drawing on a dataset of 120 articles comprising news reports, op-ed pieces, and editorials, I explore the discursive strategies employed in the Ghanaian media to resist CSE implementation. I combine insights from critical policy analysis and critical discourse analysis to shed light on how, through the media, individuals and groups other than curriculum experts influence educational policies.   • GLSEN Day of Silence

    Day of Silence is a nationally-recognized demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools. Students go through the school day without speaking, ending the day with Breaking the Silence rallies to bring attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive.

  • “Cripping” Sex Education: Gaps and Opportunities

    This lecture explores the significant gaps in sex education for 2SLGBTQ+ adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Drawing on a qualitative research project, and grounded in crip theory, we identify strategies to create more inclusive, affirming, and accessible sex education for disabled people.
