    Endometriosis is a disease that affects hormones, immune system (the system that fights germs and cancer), and the digestive tract (the system involved in the breakdown and absorption of food). Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 people with uteruses. Find out more here

  • Accessible Health Education: Designing Health Education for Students with Disabilities

    We will explore the emerging concept of accessible health education (AHE), disability justice and ways that ableism can impact students. We will share key strategies you can use to support students with disabilities in your health education classroom, including some examples and resources. You will leave with tools for your “AHE toolbox”. Lunch is included.

  • Puberty Happens Curriculum Training

    Join colleagues from around the state to learn about the 2024 edition of Puberty Happens and the key components within a puberty education program. Participants will leave the training with new lessons and activities to implement in the classroom or to use one-on-one with young people (grades 4-6) navigating the many changes of puberty.   • Educating for Equity | Pronouns Explained: The What, How, and Why of Inclusive Language

    This webinar provides a comprehensive introduction to the role of pronouns and chosen names in affirming transgender and nonbinary people. Attendees will engage in collaborative learning to demonstrate confidence in sharing and asking for pronouns, repair harm from misgendering and deadnaming, and disarm misinformation and misconceptions about gender diversity. (Cost: Sliding scale, $10-50).

  • Menstrual Equity Advocacy Day

    People in schools, shelters, and jails should all have access to tampons and pads, right? This lobby day organized by Mass NOW is a chance to hear from the activists and elected officials who have championed bills for menstrual equity. You will also have the opportunity to meet with your legislators to urge them to pass laws that would increase access to menstrual products. Register ASAP

  • Learn to Use Deep Canvassing to Win for Sex Education

    Join us for a hands-on training on how to use our breakthrough script to move people from fear to support for teaching kids gender-inclusive sex ed! You'll get coaching, support, practice and community. Whether you're looking for better ways to break through with elected officials, want to do more effective phone banking or door knocking in your community, or just stop going around in circles with stakeholders, this training is for you.   • Bringing the Adults in the Room on Board with Youth Sex Ed

    Join YES! for an interactive workshop on how to communicate with other adults in the room about values and expectations during youth sex ed. In this training, we will discuss difficult situations we have experienced and work together to brainstorm strategies for setting boundaries and communicating clearly about our goals and expectations for other adults.   • Periods and Wet Dreams: Teaching Puberty in Elementary School

    This interactive full-day virtual training equips educators, school nurses, and youth-serving professionals with strategies to support pubescent youth through physical changes, emotional growth, and identity development. Using a social-emotional lens, participants will practice lessons on anatomy, menstruation, hygiene, empathy, and more. $195

  • Supporting Student Growth Through Trauma-Informed, Tiered Practice

    This workshop builds a shared understanding of trauma and resilience through a trauma-informed instructional lens. Participants will examine Tier 1 classroom strategies that support student well-being, engagement, and regulation during instruction, including routines, relationships, and learning environments. The session will also highlight how individual instructional practices connect to and reinforce cohesive, schoolwide systems of support. Lunch is included.

  • Sexuality Education Cornerstone Seminar (SECS) | In-Person

    SECS is designed for educators, youth-serving professionals, and individuals interested in sexuality education who are seeking a basic foundation of knowledge in sexuality and sexual health information that they can share with their populations. Looking at the history of the movement to end sexual violence: It’s impossible to prevent an issue no one knows about, and it’s difficult to make people aware of a problem without providing a solution.     Maine’s annual conference for educators, school nurses, school counselors, and a variety of other youth-serving professionals. Every year we are excited to come together to share new and innovative programming, develop skills and knowledge, and provide resources for delivering positive, inclusive sexual health education.

  • GLSEN Day of Silence

    Day of Silence is a nationally-recognized demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools. Students go through the school day without speaking, ending the day with Breaking the Silence rallies to bring attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive.

  • What’s Abortion Got to Do with it? Connecting the Dots Between Sex Ed and Abortion

    This virtual training was developed in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, both in anticipation of increased questions from young people about abortion and in recognition of the need to include abortion in conversations about sexuality. Young people deserve accurate information and open, honest spaces to explore it. This training will equip educators with the skills to support youth in learning about abortion and understanding its role in sexual and reproductive healthcare. $195

    If you identify as panromantic or pansexual – enjoy the 24th of May. If you know someone who does, let them know you’re thinking of them. Validation and acceptance makes the human experience all that more wonderous. If you neither identify or know someone – but you’ve learned something new about the wonderful variety that human beings come in, share on social media, have a conversation, do some reading. The more connected we are, the happier we are.

    Today, millions of women and girls* around the world are stigmatised, excluded and discriminated against simply because they menstruate. In 2022, it’s no longer acceptable that a natural bodily function prevents women and girls from getting an education, earning an income and fully and equally participating in everyday life.

    Sex educators are fun, passionate and highly qualified professionals, often with advanced degrees, who make the world a better, happier, safer place, and save lives. But it is a misunderstood profession. From abstinence only funding, to censorship, community backlash and harassment, an overarching cultural shame of sexuality that makes our students hard to reach, and a profound society-wide misconception about what sexuality educators even do and why it's important, sex educators are up against a lot when they go to work every day. On June 9, thank a sex educator for the important but often underpaid and unappreciated work they do.

    Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today.

  • Anniversary of Stonewall Riots

    The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.

  • International Non-Binary People’s Day

    International Non-Binary People's Day is observed each year on 14 July and is aimed at raising awareness and organizing around the issues faced by non-binary people around the world. The day was first celebrated in 2012. The date was chosen for being precisely between International Men's Day and International Women's Day.

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Month

    Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Month

    Awareness helps the public understand that symptoms like irregular periods and pelvic pain are not something to be ignored and getting it checked is necessary. While there is no cure for PCOS, there are treatments that can help ease the stress and complications of specific symptoms. The more people that are informed of PCOS the better chances for early diagnosis.

    The World Association for Sexual Health has invited many audiences to celebrate World Sexual Health and join this initiative to promote sexual health, well-being and rights for all. This year’s theme is Consent

Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information.

    Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health campaign that’s held every October. The month aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease, which affects 2.3 million women worldwide.
