EducateUS Fund is laser-focused on advancing and defending sex education around the country. We believe that universal sex education can change the world.

Sex ed is not only fundamental for individual human rights, but for democracy itself. Universal sex ed establishes a foundation for a society built on dignity, equality, and respect for the rights of others by teaching students how to engage in healthy relationships, challenging damaging stereotypes and fostering inclusivity and consent. This is precisely why anti-democratic forces have increasingly focused their attacks on it, and why our fight is so crucial. 

Our ultimate goal is a complete transformation of K-12 public sex education nationwide. We aim to foster a new generation of Americans who are secure in their bodily sovereignty; recognize and respect that sovereignty in everyone else regardless of race, place, creed, class, or gender; know all the essential facts about how bodies work; and are fully prepared to flourish in loving relationships with themselves and others.

Opponents of sex education, already targeting public education generally, have been further emboldened by the recent election.

This leads to several specific opportunities and needs:

Ignite the Public Imagination.

In states and municipalities where leaders are more open to supporting sex education, we see new opportunities to make a bold, forward-looking case for improving public school sex education policy and implementation. This will serve the dual purpose of getting many young people the sex education they need and deserve right now, while igniting the public imagination across the country with vibrant examples of what’s possible in the fight for sex education.  

Support Advocates in Key Fights.

In states and municipalities where leaders are hesitant to support sex education, our goal must be to support advocates on the ground, equipping them with everything they need to defeat attacks on sex education, counter misinformation, and make even small advancements wherever possible.

Expand Access in Hostile Areas.

In states and municipalities where leadership is openly hostile to sex education, we will expand efforts to ensure that community-based sex education is available to every parent and young person who wants it, so that they are not reliant solely on harmful or nonexistent school curricula.

As we develop, run and refine these programs, we’ll increase our capacity to respond to a shifting national landscape. By having effective approaches operational in all three core scenarios, we will be ready to help local and state organizers pivot their strategies in response to shifts in local and state leadership, as well as to potential changes in state or federal law.
